It is time for things to come to an end and I suppose this is the finale for the project.
35% of the whole grade is really heavy, failing this project sure isn't a joke at all. Despite finishing all the other stuff as of required for this project, I'm still unable to rid myself of this uneasiness. Countless thoughts of discovering mistakes and blunders at the very last moment keeps surfacing up on my mind.
This project had been a really arduous task. Data entry is definitely the "highlight" of the project. Having the slightest mistakes would result in having the need to redo, like having 1 date or amount keyed in wrongly. Even though there are ways to go about correcting those mistakes, like reversing the errors, I chose to redo them. Well, that's probably got to do with me being a bit of a perfectionist and wanting to have things done error-free. Basically, I have already lost counts of how many times I redid the project. To be honest, this isn't all that difficult unlike what it seems to be, and my time spent on redoing is definitely more than doing the actual thing itself. That being said, end of the day it still benefits me as I get to be more familiarized and be more adept at using Accpac, especially since this is a really useful tool, be it in terms of speed or accuracy as compared to doing manually. Being better at this will certainly have its fair share of advantages when I work as an accountant in the future.
Contributions
I started the project early, before the mid-semester tests alone. Me saying this is definitely not to put down my group members but my plan was actually to ease the rest of their work by starting off earlier. I would get a first-hand experience on what is to be expected and various points to look out for. You can try visualizing in your mind of me springing off the traps in a dungeon so as to clear the path for them. In my opinion, this is better rather than having the whole group getting into the same predicament, since that would most likely imply redoing.
Naturally, no progress during the week having tests. We came to school a few times during the 2 weeks term break on my initiation since i figured we might not have much time to do the CAS project once the term 2 commences as there are also other projects due. I supposed the number of times we came during the term break is not as high as the other more diligent groups, but our progress had been quite steady throughout. My other group members really stayed until evening, which amounts to quite an amount of hours. I stayed on till late at night around 8-9pm in the lab, mostly to check on the work they have done. I went ahead to redo the work they have done, correcting mistakes made. This would in other words mean that I'm denying all the effort they had put in, though I have no intentions of doing that.
Phoebe is the leader of the group, but I ended up being the one spliting the tasks and guiding the group along the way, since I'm more seasoned at it. Please do note this is not meant to criticize her, but merely stating my thoughts. Outside of that, I think she has done a pretty good job at leading the group, like arranging time and does not mind to go an extra mile to clarify things and get things done.
My main contributions, or rather the part I'm "in charge of" after splitting out the tasks, are the adjustment entries, recurring entries, not forgetting closing of all the accounts for the new year and redoing GL transactions for god knows how many times.
I got to find out more about my group mates during this seemingly short but long journey.
Now it's finally the time for things to come to an end. I must say CAS is a very enriching subject and it is very relevant to what might be of our professions in the future.
